Trade No. 8

  • Atlanta Braves receive DH Matt Carpenter, LHP Ray Kerr
  • San Diego Padres receive OF Drew Campbell

The Braves acquired a current piece of their bullpen back on December 15 in Ray Kerr, who was part of a multi-player deal. So far this season, Kerr has one scoreless relief appearance in Atlanta, as well as an 0-1 record with a 4.50 ERA, a 22:5 K:BB ratio, and three saves across 14 IP in Triple-A Gwinnett.

In addition to Kerr, the Braves also received veteran slugger Matt Carpenter from the Padres, but he would never appear in a game for Atlanta.

San Diego would in return receive Campbell, a minor league outfielder. Campbell however has not appeared in a game within the San Diego Padres organization.

Trade No. 9

  • Atlanta Braves receive LHP Chris Sale, cash
  • Boston Red Sox receive SS Vaughn Grissom

One of the Braves most notable trades from this past offseason occurred on December 30 when the club acquired Sale, a seven-time All-Star, from the Boston Red Sox. The Sale addition has certainly been an impactful one so far as well, as the left-hander has been one of the top pitchers in baseball owning a 5-1 record, a 2.95 ERA, and a 52:8 K:BB across 42.2 IP (seven starts).

In return, the Red Sox received Grissom, who has split time in between the major leagues and Triple-A so far this season, slashing .118/.118/.177 with two RBI across four games in Boston. In Triple-A, the infielder has slashed .333/.444/.400 with two RBI and two SB.

Trade No. 10

  • Atlanta Braves receive OF J.P. Martinez
  • Texas Rangers receive RHP Tyler Owens

Atlanta's tenth, and final, trade of the 2023-24 offseason came back on January 26 when the Braves acquired Martinez from the Texas Rangers. So far this season, Martinez has impressed across his 32 games in Triple-A Gwinnett, slashing .292/.375/.458 with three HR, nine RBI, and 11 SB.

In return, Texas received a minor league pitcher in Owens, who has so far had nine relief appearances in Double-A so far this season. Across those 13.1 IP, Owens' owns a 3.38 ERA and 14:4 K:BB ratio. It's still just the early returns thus far, but a lot of these trades look like more examples of an Alex Anthopoulos masterclass.
