Welcome to House That Hank Built’s latest series: Guessing random Atlanta Braves players from the past! Take the opportunity to participate in our daily guessing game every morning at 3:00 pm EST. We will give you five hints at a random player who donned an Atlanta Braves jersey and see if you can guess from there! Have fun and no cheating! Here we go! 

Hint #1 (Career Length): This player spent a total of 14 seasons in the MLB. During this time, he made appearances for the following teams: Montreal Expos, Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, Florida Marlins, and Atlanta Braves 

Hint #2 (Jersey Numbers): During his 14 seasons in the big leagues, this player wore the following jersey numbers: 28, 23, 33, and 31. He wore 33 with the Braves.

Hint #3 (Individual Accolades): This player was a one-time All-Star in 2004, and finished 4th in Cy Young voting with Atlanta in 2009.

Hint #4 (Braves Stats): This player was with the Braves in 2009 and posted a 15-10 record, 2.87 ERA, and 2.77 FIP in just over 219 innings.

Hint #5 (Random Fact): This player threw a complete game in the final game of his career on September 27, 2011 against the Washington Nationals.

Answer: Javier Vázquez

Long time starting pitcher Javier Vazquez made his way around the big leagues across his 14 year career. His lone season with the Braves in 2009 was perhaps the best of his career. Across his 32 starts in 2009, Vazquez posted a career best mark in both ERA (2.87) and FIP (2.77).

Oddly enough, his arrival to Atlanta came via trade with the White Sox in which the Braves sent a package of prospects, headlined by Tyler Flowers, to acquire Vazquez and relief pitcher Boone Logan. After the stellar 2009 campaign, Atlanta traded Javier to the Yankees in exchange for Melky Cabrera, Mike Dunn, and Arodys Vizcaíno.
