Welcome to House That Hank Built’s latest series: Guessing random Atlanta Braves players from the past! Take the opportunity to participate in our daily guessing game every morning at 3:00 pm EST. We will give you five hints at a random player who donned an Atlanta Braves jersey and see if you can guess from there! Have fun and no cheating! Here we go! 

Hint #1 (Career Length): This player spent a total of 14 seasons in the MLB. During this time, he made appearances for the following teams: Oakland A’s, Colorado Rockies, Florida Marlins and Atlanta Braves.

Hint #2 (Jersey Numbers): During his 14 seasons in the big leagues, this player wore the following jersey numbers: 17, 7 and 22. He wore 22 with the Braves.

Hint #3 (Individual Accolades): This player was American League Rookie of the Year in 1988. He was an all-star in 1998 and was part of the 1989 Oakland A’s World Series championship team. 

Hint #4 (Braves Stats): This player was with the Braves from 1998-2000. Over this time he hit .257 with 2 home runs and 74 runs batted in. 

Hint #5 (Random Fact): This former player is actually still part of the Atlanta Braves coaching staff today and also has experience as a big league manager. Many believe he is next in line for the Braves job if Brian Snitker were to retire.

Answer: Walt Weiss

Walt Weiss began his MLB career in 1987 with the Oakland A’s. He ended his career by playing his last three seasons with the Atlanta Braves. 

13 years after he retired as a player, Weiss took over as manager for the Colorado Rockies. In four seasons, he went 283-365. 

Weiss currently serves as the Braves bench coach and takes over the lineup card any time skipper Brian Snitker gets tossed.
