Game Preview: Charlie Morton looks to rebound as the Braves finish series with Yanks

The Atlanta Braves will go for the series sweep against the Bronx Bombers tonight at Truist Park. To do so the offense will have to put up runs against a rookie starter.

A series sweep against an often unpopular big market New York Yankees squad is something that would warm the hearts of many Braves fans. Atlanta has the chance to accomplish just that, as they wrap up the series with the Bronx Bombers this evening.

The Braves took the first two of this series behind a few homers, and a very welcomed rebound from the starting pitching. Max Fried and Bryce Edler both were great in their starts, and veteran Charlie Morton will hope for the same success against this struggling Yankees lineup.

Pitching Matchup for Braves vs. Yankees

As we mentioned, the rotation looks to be rounding back into shape for the Braves. Although, it’s not the worst thing to look to rebound against these weaker than normal New York lineups the Braves have been facing. Charlie Morton is 11-10 with a 3.71 ERA, and 4.17 FIP. The second half has seen Charlie struggle mightily with his command, and that was on full display in his last start as he walked a career-high seven batters against the Mets.

Rookie Randy Vasquez will make his fourth start for New York. So far he has netted good results as he sports a 1.89 ERA and 1.053 WHIP in 19 innings of work. However, that may be a bit of good fortune as his FIP is over five and he has a strikeout to walk ratio of 1.5.

Hitter to watch

Marcell Ozuna hit his 24th homer of the season last night and is now riding a 12 game hitting streak. He is 7 for his last 13 along with four walks. We know Marcell can ride a hot streak with the best of him, and it appears he may be right in the thick of one right now for Atlanta.
