Game Preview: Braves’ Charlie Morton looking for redemption against the Mets

The Atlanta Braves square off against the New York Mets for the final time in 2023. Tonight’s starting pitchers are Chalie Morton and Jose Quintana.

The Atlanta Braves are set to play the rubber match against their rival tonight at Truist Park. Last night, Eddie Rosario and Marcell Ozuna each homered to lead the Braves to their 3-2 win in the second game of the series.

Oddly enough, this will be the last time these two teams will play each other in 2023. A far cry from the intense division deciding series in the last week of the 2022 season. Hopefully the Braves can beat up on the Mets one last time in 2023.

Pitching Matchup for Braves vs. Mets

Charlie Morton will get the ball for Atlanta, looking to follow one of his better starts of the season. Last time out he went six innings of shutout baseball while picking up 10 Ks and walking just one against the Yankees. Hopefully, it’s more of that Charlie Morton rather than the one that walked a seven up in Flushing on August 11th.

The Mets will send Jose Quintana to the mound for his seventh start of the year. Quintana has faired well thus far in 2023 with a 3.03 ERA and 3.41 FIP.

Hitter to watch

It’s not often I pick a hitter that hasn’t recorded a hit in the series yet, but Austin Riley has been hitting the ball hard lately without much to show for it. I think both him and Ronald Acuna Jr. are due for a home run and tonight could be the night.

Plus, Riley was the Atlanta Braves 2023 Heart & Hustle award winner, so I think he is due for some good karma. Hopefully, the Braves bats get to Quintana early and finish off a successful season series with the Mets.
