The Atlanta Braves slugged their way to a 10-3 win over the Nationals on Thursday evening. It was a nice showing by Max Fried as well who was able to complete 6 innings. In those 6 innings, he allowed 1 run on 3 hits with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts.
Unfortunately, Fried was added to the 15-day IL after this performance due to having a blister on his index finger. He will not pitch for the remainder of the regular season but the Braves remain hopeful he will pitch in the NLDS. Fried will throw with tape over the blister in order to keep his arm loose.
Atlanta hopes to have similar luck offensively in game two as they will look to back Charlie Morton who is seeking his 15th win of the 2023 season. Morton has struggled at times this season but he's been exactly what the Braves needed in the middle of the rotation.
Morton's ERA sits at 3.66 through 162.1 innings of work and has 182 strikeouts. He will hope to have a better outing than his last one against the Marlins. Charlie only lasted 4.2 innings while allowing 6 runs on 6 hits. He walked 5 batters and struck out 5 as well.
Atlanta's offense will face southpaw Patrick Corbin who has struggled a bit in 2023. His ERA sits at 5.00 with a 10-13 record. Corbin hasn't faced the Braves since the first game of the season and that game featured just a 3-inning performance from the lefty. Atlanta scored 4 runs on 7 hits with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.
The Braves will hope to take advantage and attack Corbin and the Nats. Game time for Friday's game is 7:05 PM EST and can be seen on Bally Sports Southeast. You can listen to the game at 680 AM/93.7 FM The Fan.
