Braves vs. Red Sox Rain Delay: Details and updates
The Atlanta Braves start to their series with the Red Sox will be delayed due to rain in the area.
The Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox were set to square off in the first of two games tonight at 7:10 PM EST.
However, the game is currently in a weather delay.
UPDATE: It appears the tarp has now come off of the field and the game is slated to now begin at 8:50 PM EST.
While we wait for updates on when the game may start, let's check out some news from the team.
Trades, Trades, Trades
If you missed the past couple of days, Atlanta has acquired 3 pitchers to add to their staff. Yonny Chirinos was claimed on waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. The Braves then made two trades on Monday for relief pitchers.
Pierce Johnson was acquired from Colorado for prospects Victor Vodnik and Tanner Gordon. Johnson has a 6.00 ERA on the season but had pitched much better on the road than at Coors Field. Atlanta also added LHP Taylor Hearn from the Texas Rangers on Monday. He has only pitched 7 innings at the big league level in 2023.
All 3 pitchers have joined the team in Boston and are available for tonight's game with the Red Sox. It's great to have a few options to choose from with a few pitchers still down on the IL.
Speaking of the IL, A.J. Minter is making his first rehab appearance with Gwinnett during their series with Jacksonville. Max Fried makes his fourth rehab start on Wednesday in Jacksonville as he works his way back to the team. Both pitchers could rejoin the team very soon but that obviously depends on how they feel after pitching.
When Chirinos was acquired on Sunday, the Braves optioned Michael Soroka to Gwinnett and designated RHP Seth Elledge for assignment. Atlanta announced this morning that Elledge had been outrighted to Gwinnett.
That's all the updates for today but we will keep you informed on any breaking news.
