After one of the more exciting Atlanta Braves home openers in recent memory, top prospect Jared Shuster looks to build off of the momentum in his second career start. Last night's heartbreaking loss sent the Padres to 3-4 on the year, but this lineup is still as daunting as ever. The Braves will look to push their impressive record to 7-1 as their first home stint continues at Truist Park.
Braves vs. Padres Pitching Matchup
For the Atlanta Braves, Jared Shuster will look to build off of an interesting major league debut. He began the season with a very rocky first inning that included multiple walks and hits, and ultimately lead to four first inning runs. However, he settled in after that, and nearly completed five innings in total without giving up another run. It goes without saying that this impressive Padres lineup has no experience facing Shuster and this could certainly play to his advantage. Shuster will likely look to throw strikes early and not let walks add to the stress of facing Juan Soto and company.
As for the Padres, they will be rolling out team USA, World Baseball Classic starting pitcher Nick Martinez. Martinez narrowly missed recording a quality start in his debut against the Colorado Rockies. He was able to complete seven innings while giving up four runs. He is also coming off an impressive 2022 where he held a 3.47 ERA in just over 100 innings pitched. No one on the Atlanta roster has more than 9 at bats against Martinez, but four Braves have homered off of him in their careers (Olson, Ozuna, Albies, Rosario). They each hold some impressive small sample size numbers and hope to replicate that tonight.
