Well, last night was certainly eventful for the Atlanta Braves. Not only did they absolutely clobber the Marlins to notch yet another series win, but they also had a pair of significant injuries, although it appears only one player will miss significant time. Kyle Wright was placed on the injured list earlier today after he had to leave his start last night with right shoulder soreness while Michael Harris II jammed his knee on a play at first base.
Harris is not expected to play today, but manager Brian Snitker seemed bullish that Harris would be fine with a day or two of rest. However, that still left the matter of who was going to start today's game and after the Braves pushed Max Fried's start to tomorrow and Wright went to the injured list, they are going with Dylan Dodd as their guy for the series finale today against the Marlins.
Braves vs. Marlins Pitching Matchup
This will be Dylan Dodd's third start in the big leagues. His first start against the Cardinals went well as he gave up just one run in five innings of work while the Padres beat him up in his second major league start. Since returning to Triple-A, his results have been mixed as he has seemingly struggled to regain his ability to throw strikes consistently and he had a rough start for Gwinnett his last time out.
All of that said, the Marlins have no experience whatsoever against Dodd, but they do have some lefties that have been pretty productive for them this year and Dodd should be a tough match-up for them especially if he is throwing strikes.
Opposing Dodd from the Marlins will be Jesus Luzardo. In six starts this season (33.2 innings), Luzardo has posted a 3.48 ERA with 38 strikeouts against 11 walks this season. The Braves have some limited experience against Luzardo with Matt Olson having a home run off of him as his only hit against him. Austin Riley has also played well against him in the past as well, so hopefully that carries over to today.
