The Atlanta Braves unfortunately took the loss in game one of their series with the Oakland A's who spoiled the return of Michael Soroka. The Braves offense was only able to score one run in the first inning and the second run didn't come until a solo homer in the eighth from Matt Olson.
Fans are hoping for a better showing in game two of the series as Bryce Elder takes the mound for Atlanta. The team getting in to California so early in the morning and the earlier game time could have had some affect on them.
Starters for Atlanta Braves at Oakland Athletics Game Two
Bryce Elder will be the starter for Atlanta in game two as he seeks to win his fourth game of the season. Elder currently sits at 3-0 with a 2.01 ERA over 58.1 innings pitched in 2023 so far. He's been a nice surprise for the Braves as he stepped in to fill the void created when Kyle Wright went down.
His last start against the Dodgers was impressive as he allowed just one run over six innings of work and walked just one batter while striking out six. He has really come into his own this season and looks to have figured things out.
Elder will be opposed by Oakland starter JP Sears who is 0-3 on the season with a 4.70 ERA in 53.2 innings pitched. Those high numbers are attributed to some rough starts early on in the season. His last three starts have been a little better allowing no more than two earned runs in each of those starts.
He allowed just one run on three hits over five innings in his last start against Seattle. The Braves will hopefully be able to get to him early and pile on some runs. Losing to a team with just eleven wins on the season is a tough pill to swallow.
