The Atlanta Braves were unable to mount a comeback in Game 1 against the Dodgers as they lost 8-6 on Monday evening. Offensively, the game started off great for the team and it looked promising but the Dodgers were able to take advantage of mistakes and propel themselves to their 30th win of 2023.
Charlie Morton looked great early on but allowed the Dodgers to creep back in and ultimately, a three-run homer by Freddie Freeman was the final blow to give LA the lead. Morton was able to get out of the fifth inning but that ended his day after allowing six runs on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts. However, you have to take that one on the chin and move on to the next.
Starters for Game 2: Atlanta Braves vs Los Angeles Dodgers
Atlanta looks to even up the series as they send out Spencer Strider for game two of the series. Strider has been one of the highlights of the 2023 season so far and has provided Atlanta with some great innings.
His last start in Texas was a bit of a struggle for him as he went five innings allowing four runs on six hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. He allowed two homers in that game which is not something we expect from Strider. However, the Braves offense was able to bail him out as Atlanta won 6-5.
He will oppose the Dodgers number 2 prosepect Bobby Miller who will be making his MLB debut on Tuesday evening. Miller has made four starts at Triple-A Oklahoma City so far this season and carries a 5.65 ERA with six walks and twelve strikeouts in 14.1 innings pitched.
He was unable to pitch this Spring due to an injury to his pitching shoulder so he's still working his way back to full strength. Miller faces a tough task as his first MLB start is against one of the best offenses in the National League. It's always fun getting to see the future of the league in the early stages of their careers but hopefully Atlanta can take advantage and get a win on Tuesday.
