The Atlanta Braves appear to be forming another June of great baseball, as they have now reeled off six straight victories after their latest comeback win last night. Last season the Braves started June off with 14 straight wins, this season they are 6-1 thus far in June. I for one will gladly accept them making this amount of winning in June a tradition.
In order to reach their seventh straight victory this afternoon, they will have to take care of business against the last place Nationals. This will be the second Jared Shuster vs. MacKenzie Gore matchup of the season, as the first occurred on April 2nd and was the Nats lone win agaisnt the Braves this season.
Braves vs. Nationals Pitching Matchup
Mackenzie Gore looks to established himself as dependable major league starting pitcher. In 2023 Gore has a 3-4 record, 3.66 ERA, 3.92 FIP, and is striking out over 11 batters per nine innings. In his April start agaisnt the Braves, Gore went 5.1 innings while allowing just three hits and one earned run. He has went at least 6 innings in each of this last two starts, so look to see if the Braves can get to him early and shorten his afternoon.
Since being inserted back into the Braves rotation on May 16th, Jared Shuster had gone at least five innings and allowed three or fewer runs in every start. He is certainly trending in the right direction and hopefully can rebound in his second attempt against Washington. Shuster’s first big league start came against these Nationals and was a forgettable one to say the least. He lasted just 4.2 innings and had baserunners all day as he surrendered 6 hits and issued 5 free passes. Walks were a bit of a problem last time out agaisnt Oakland for Shuster, so if he can harness in the command I think the Braves will have a good afternoon.
