The Atlanta Braves television broadcast saw a significant change last season. For the first time since 2005 a someone not named Chip Caray was the going to be the lead play by play voice. Caray took the same role with the St. Louis Cardinals, and that opened the door for one Brandon Gaudin.
Not many fans were familiar with Gaudin's previous work, but any expectations they had were certainly exceeded in Gaudin's debut season with Atlanta. Thanks to that great work Gaudin put into Braves telecasts' he recently received the NSMA Sports Media - Georgia Sportscaster of the Year award.
This award was definitely deserved, as Gaudin did a tremendous job of making each game's broadcast feel unique in it's own way. Certainly, a tough task to do when you have 162 of them. It's speaks to Gaudin's personality, humor, and timely baseball knowledge to make this past season's Braves telecasts some of the most fun many fans have had in their viewing of Braves baseball.
For a team as talented as the Braves, simultaneously having an enjoyable broadcast to accompany the audience was a welcome addition in 2023. Gaudin will be back for his second season with Atlanta in 2024 to voice another sure to be exciting Braves squad.
However, his broadcast partner will often be different from what we heard in 2023. Earlier this offseason, the Braves announced Jeff Francoeur would be stepping back to a part-time schedule to spend more time with his family. Because of that, Atlanta hired former MLB pitcher and Rangers analyst C.J. Nitkowski to partner alongside Gaudin next season.
Gaudin will likely see Nitkowski, Moylan, Green, Glavine, and Francoeur all spend time with him in the booth next year. However, no matter who it is on a given night, Gaudin often knocks the broadcast out of the park. Congrats to Brandon on this very deserving recognition as one of Georgia's best voices.
