Things haven't been doing particularly well for the Braves the last few days as they now find themselves falling out of the third Wild Card spot and dropping to third in the division. The offense has struggled on year but the pitching staff has uncharacteristically struggled lately despite being baseball's best pitching staff for the majority of the season.
They head to Colorado hoping to get things back on track during a crucial and long West Coast trip. Let's check out some of the latest news surrounding the Braves.
Zach Logue recalled by Braves, Parker Dunshee optioned to Triple-A
The Atlanta Braves added another fresh arm to the bullpen for their matchup with the Colorado Rockies on Friday night. The next man up is left-handed reliever Zach Logue who has spent time with Triple-A Gwinnett.
Atlanta optioned Parker Dunshee to the Stripers following his MLB debut during Thursday's embarrassing loss to the Brewers. Dunshee allowed four hits and five runs through 2.1 innings as he was utilized much sooner than the Braves hoped.
Logue has been recalled once to Atlanta in July but he was almost immediately optioned back down and did not appear with the team. He has appeared in 20 games for Triple-A Gwinnett in 2024 and has a 2.93 ERA in 83 innings with 21 walks and 74 strikeouts.
He has briefly appeared in the big leagues in 2022 and 2023 with Oakland and Detroit respectively. Through 68 total innings, the lefty has a 6.88 ERA and 5.72 FIP with 55 walks and 131 strikeouts.
MLB officially announced date for 2025 Braves and Reds game at Bristol Motor Speedway
Yes, you read that title correctly. The Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds will square off at a NASCAR track during the 2025 season. MLB announced the two teams will take on one another on August 2, 2025, from Bristol Motor Speedway.
Bristol has hosted large non-racing sporting events before with the most recent event being from 2023 when Tennessee and Virginia Tech played a college football game there. They ended up hosting over 150,000 people. It allows more of Braves Country to see their favorite team play in person. The idea of a baseball game featuring 150,000+ sounds like it would be an electric atmosphere.
Ian Anderson inching closer to return for Braves
It has been a long road back for Atlanta Braves starter Ian Anderson as he makes his way back from injury. The most recent update stated Anderson had his next start pushed to Friday night. Doing this allows him to be an option to start for the Braves in San Francisco next week as they continue to look for suitable spot starts.
Anderson has done fairly well since returning to the mound where the main focus has been on his health. He's featured at four different levels and is currently with Triple-A Gwinnett. Anderson has a collective 4.26 ERA through 25.1 innings with seven walks and 22 strikeouts.
