Amongst all of the Atlanta Braves core players, none of them have had worse injury luck that Ozzie Albies. When he was in the minor leagues, Albies suffered a fluke fractured elbow back in 2016 on a swing that threatened to derail his young career. In 2022, he broke his foot and had to miss a huge chunk of time only to break a finger the day after he returned that September. Some guys are just snakebit and Ozzie is just one of those guys, apparently.

That brings us to Monday's game against the Astros where Albies was hit by a pitch on his toe. The play looked innocuous enough and he did play the rest of the game. However, Albies was noticeably limping after the game and there is a decent chance now that he will at least sit out Tuesday's game if not more.

Ozzie Albies' latest injury adds to Braves' early season troubles

The good news is that we have yet to get any word that Albies' toe is going to require an injured list stint. The hope is that the pitch just got him in a tender spot and that he will be right as rain in a day or two. However, that he is missing time at all and is getting his toe checked out is cause for concern. The bones in the foot and toe are small and if he got hit square in the wrong place, this could be a problem.

Obviously this is not great news for the Braves. In addition to Albies' track record as being one of the best second basemen in baseball despite what some national outlets think, he has been a crucial piece of the Braves' offense in 2024. Through 15 games this season, Albies is slashing .317/.386/.492 with a couple homers and 14 RBI.

While the Braves' offense is good enough to afford to miss Albies for a little while, between Spencer Strider's season-ending elbow injury and now this, Atlanta is looking really banged up early in the 2024 season and that can't afford to have much more go wrong.
