This tumultuous season hasn't offered many good updates regarding injured players for the Atlanta Braves. Just a couple days ago it was announced that valuable reliever A.J. Minter needed hip surgery. Thankfully, disaster was avoided with the latest injury for Atlanta.
Slugging leadoff man Jorge Soler had to exit Wednesday night's dominating win over San Francisco early because of hamstring tightness. Soler underwent an MRI today, and luckily he avoided anything major.
Soler listed as day to day with mild hamstring strain
Braves manager Brian Snitker provided an update on Soler in today's postgame media scrum. The injury was described as a mild hamstring strain, and Soler is currently listed as day to day.
Soler told reporters after the game that he won't play tomorrow, but didn't rule out the weekend. According to Soler the injury felt much better when he woke up today, so a couple more days of rest may be all that's needed before Soler can resume baseball activity.
Soler has been just as Braves fans remembered him since coming back to Atlanta at the trade deadline. In his 13 games since returning to the Braves, Soler has a .400 OBP and .978 OPS. Soler is also currently riding a 22 game on-base streak, the second longest active streak in MLB.
With the hope that Soler can return as soon as this weekend, the Braves will likely continue to play a man down on the bench. Duvall can play all three outfield spots in a pinch, but hopefully it won't come to that. The Braves have famously played with a shortened bench numerous times this season, as they hoped to avoid IL stints.
If you remember back in May, Austin Riley missed right at two weeks and yet was never placed on the injured list as the Braves remained cautious with him. Hopefully, the Braves don't go down that road again with Soler and the slugging leadoff man is back in the lineup as soon as possible.
