Braves' dreadful loss made even worse by NL East rival fans' celebration

Through the first two games of the Dodgers series, it felt like the Atlanta Braves were finally turning a corner and putting all of their injuries at least somewhat behind him. The Braves had won both games handily and that SHOULD have been a huge confidence for a team in desperate need of one. Instead, the last three games have been a colossal disappointment.

After having to settle for a series split with the Dodgers thanks to a pair of embarrassing losses to close out the four game set, the Braves blew their lead against the Reds en route to a 6-5 loss. Making matters worse, the Mets and their fans are clearly scoreboard watching and their reaction to the Braves' loss being shown on the scoreboard at Citi Field was a true gut punch.

Mets fans rejoicing in Braves' misery could be much worse

Seasons like 2024 already stink. The Braves have basically lost an entire All-Star team due to injuries and this whole having to limp to the finish line of the season thing is something that Atlanta fans have been over for quite while. However, having division rivals like the Phillies having a strong year and the Mets being the potential team that could keep Atlanta out of the postseason is just actual agony.

Sure, we can take solace in the fact that the Mets have spent the gross income of a small European nation only to have to try and scrape into the playoffs this year and collapsing so spectacularly in 2023 that Sal Licata became even more of a meme (if he wasn't already). It also feels nice that the Mets haven't won a playoff series since 2015 or a World Series since 1986.

Unfortunately, that is little comfort this year and frankly, Braves fans would be overjoyed and doing the exact same thing if the situations were reversed here. Now two games out of a playoff spot, Atlanta simply has to start playing better very soon if for no other reason than to shut these Mets fans up who seem to have forgotten that they are a minor league franchise in New York City. The Braves will have a real chance to squash this chatter when the Mets come to town next week and boy would it be amazing if Atlanta swept them.

Given the Braves luck this year, you might not want to bet on that happening.
