Trade season has heated up in a big way this weekend as moves are being made left and right. Most of the big contenders including the Orioles and Phillies have made impactful additions. However, the Braves have yet to make any trades but there are still a few days left to make something happen.

Moves made by competitors can help or hurt a team and a recent trade between the Marlins and Yankees may have benefitted Atlanta. Jazz Chisholm Jr. has been on the radar of a few teams ahead of the 2024 MLB trade deadline. Some suggested that Chisholm should be traded to Atlanta but there are reasons why that move didn't make a lot of sense but it's always wise to consider every option.

Ultimately, Jazz landed with a talented Yankees squad that sits just two games back of the AL East division lead. Chisholm was sent to New York in exchange for prospects Agustin Ramirez, Jared Serna, and Abraham Ramirez.

Chisholm can spend time in the outfield or infield. However, since the Yanks already have a good outfield consisting of Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, and Alex Verdugo, he would likely be used as an infielder.

He hasn't been spectacular offensively in 2024 with a line of .249/.323/.407 (104 wRC+) but he has made some strides defensively in center field with a 1 OAA but still has a lackluster -4 DRS. Thus, he makes a lot more sense as an infield option for the Yankees and explains why he'd been getting some work in at second base in recent weeks.

Braves fans may be disappointed to miss out on trading for him but they should still be happy because they don't have to face Chisholm as often now. Jazz has pummeled Atlanta every time both sides met. He was one of the few Miami Marlins players who found a way to terrorize Braves pitching.

Jazz has a career line of .253/.328/.477 and a .805 OPS when facing the Atlanta Braves. He has 43 hits including nine home runs and 27 RBI through 48 games. Most of those hits came in big moments for the Marlins but no matter the situation, he just seems to find a way to get a hit.

The talented Bahamian outfielder repeatedly mentioned how much he enjoyed playing in Atlanta. He also talked about how Ronald Acuña Jr. is his favorite player to watch in baseball. It would have been fun to see him in a Braves uniform but at least now, he can't terrorize Atlanta as often.

There is one Atlanta Brave who won't miss Chisholm and that's Charlie Morton. Chisholm owns a .357 average (10-for-28) against Morton with two doubles, three homers, and 11 RBI over 10 games. That's a pretty good track record against one of baseball's best starters.

Jazz is an exciting player and deserves an opportunity to play for a contending team as the Marlins can't ever seem to get out of their own way and allow their organization to thrive. He's going to provide New York with more swagger and speed on the bases. It's a perfect fit for both sides and we wish him good riddance from the NL East.
