After crummy weather in New York shortened Friday's game and rained out games on Saturday and Sunday, it looks like we will finally get some Atlanta Braves baseball as they take on the Mets in a doubleheader to make up one of those rainouts. For the first game, the Braves will be sending out Spencer Strider who looks to continue his unbelievable start to the season while Charlie Morton gets the start in the second game.
Lets take a look at the pitching matchups.
Braves vs. Mets Pitching Matchups
The Braves will first go to Spencer Strider who not only is on a historic tear to start the season including nearly throwing a no-hitter in his last start, but he also has a couple of days extra rest thanks to the weather. In his last nine regular season starts, he has struck out at least nine batters but he will have his hands full with a Mets lineup that has had some small sample success against him. Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo have given him a particularly hard time.
Going against Strider will be Denyi Reyes has only worked out of the bullpen with the Mets and has just one start amongst his eight MLB appearances. The Braves have not faced him at all and it is unclear how long the Mets will let him go, but on paper this matchup looks to be in the Braves favor to say the least.
For the second game, Atlanta turns to Charlie Morton who had a bumpy start to the season, but seems to be finding his stride of late. In his last outing against the Marlins, he went seven innings and struck out nine batters while giving up just one run. The Mets' lineup has a good bit of experience against Morton with nine guys on their roster having at least 11 at-bats against him. Moreover, six guys have home runs in their careers off of Charlie and that doesn't include Pete Alonso who is hitting .333 in his career against Morton and who is off to strong start to the season.
The Mets will send Tylor Megill to the mound to oppose Morton in the second game of the twin bill. Megill is off to an okay start so far, but he is walking batters at a higher rate than he has in the past which could give the Braves some opportunities. His last start was less than inspired as he gave up four runs in four innings of work with just two strikeouts against the Giants. The Braves have a bit of experience against Megill with Ozzie Albies and Austin Riley having the most. Ozzie has given Megill fits as he is hitting .308 with a homer and 3 RBI in 13 at-bats against him.
