The Atlanta Braves returned from their road trip with a 5-1 record against the Marlins and Astros. The series in Houston felt like a playoff series and it was super exciting. Returning home, the Braves begin their homestand with a visit from the reigning World Series champions.

Texas is currently 11-9 on the season and is in first place in the AL West. They feature one of the best offenses in baseball. Their pitching staff is going to have their hands full with the best offense in all of baseball. Atlanta leads Major League Baseball in average, OBP, slugging, and OPS.

However, the same will be true for Atlanta's rotation and bullpen. Starting pitching has been a bit of a problem early on for the Braves. They've lost their ace for the season and Max Fried's early struggles haven't been encouraging. There have been some surprises with Reynaldo Lopez performing much better than expected and the bullpen being extremely dependable at bailing out the starters when they need to.

It's going to be a fun series that will be featured on National television for all three games. Let's check out today's starters and lineups.

Probable starting pitchers

Andrew Heaney (0-2, 6.75 ERA) starts for Texas and his season hasn't gone as well as he'd hoped. He's not completed five innings yet for the Rangers and his last two starts were against the Astros. He pitched 7.1 innings total (3.2 each start) allowing eight runs on eight hits with seven walks and three strikeouts. He will want to be careful with issuing walks to a Braves team that can do a lot of damage offensively.

Chris Sale (1-1, 4.58 ERA) makes his fourth start of the season for Atlanta and he's looked good so far. His most recent start was in Miami and he completed seven innings with five runs on six hits including three walks and seven strikeouts. Sale had some unfortunate luck in that start as missed strike calls with two outs in the fifth inning led to the Marlins scoring three runs. It fired him up and allowed him to finish strong with back-to-back 1-2-3 innings.

Sale has become much more important since the Braves lost Spencer Strider for the season. He's providing the team with exactly what they'd hoped for when trading Vaughn Grissom to the Red Sox to acquire the All-Star southpaw.
