Atlanta is coming off a tough one-run loss last night in the series opener against St. Louis. The Braves' ninth inning comeback attempt fell just SHORT (sorry for the pun) as backup infielder Zack Short struckout with RISP to end the game.

Controversially the Cardinals had a run gifted to them earlier in the game, but we're not here to dwell on the past. Hopefully, tonight's ballgame goes a little smoother for the Braves and they can even up the series.

This morning Atlanta made a couple roster moves in reaction to Orlando Arcia exiting the game early yesterday. Arcia isn't expected to be out long, but the lineup will look a little different without him in the ninth spot. However, a couple days off just might be what the doctor ordered for Arcia. Let's check out the pitching matchup and starting lineups for both teams.

Probable starting pitchers for Braves vs. Cardinals

Reynaldo Lopez (5-2, 1.57 ERA) has a few more starts to make a legitimate push to start the All-Star game in Texas. His ERA would lead all of baseball if not for Lopez falling a few innings shy of the ERA category qualifications. However, a good start against the Cardinals should give him enough innings to leapfrog him back into that number one spot.

Kyle Gibson (5-2, 3.44 ERA) is a veteran pitcher that has been around for quite sometime. The Braves saw a lot of him when he was with the Phillies from 2021-2022. Right now, Gibson has an ERA that would be his career best across his twelve-year big league career. His sinker/sweeper combo presents a real challenge for right-handed hitters especially.
