Last night was about as good a pitching duel as you'll see in baseball all season. The game featured dueling no-hitters between Max Fried and Bryce Miller all the way into the seventh inning. Atlanta had thoughts of the organization's first no-hitter since 1994, until an eighth inning single by Rojas.
Sadly that wasn't the only sour note from last night, as Seattle came from behind in the ninth thanks to a walk-off two-run homer from Mitch Garver to steal a 2-1 victory for the Mariners. Tonight the Braves are tasked with another elite Mariners arm to overcome and tie up the series at one.
Let's check out the starting lineups and pitchers for tonight's game.
Probable starting pitchers
Reynaldo Lopez (2-0, 0.72 ERA) takes his MLB ERA into play tonight against the Mariners. Lopez has been one of the best starters in baseball, despite not getting the national recognition yet. It can be argued that Lopez has been the most pleasant surprise on the Braves thus far. Hopefully he can continue his solid work and get some help from the offense to even up this series.
Luis Castillo (2-4, 4.15 ERA) is a proven arm at this point in his career. He still relies on an impressive arsenal of pitches including a heavy fastball, filthy changeup, and nasty slider. His results haven't been what he's wanted thus far in 2024, but his 80th percentile or better ranking in K% and BB% put him among the elite pitchers of power and command.
