The Atlanta Braves are in the midst of their first series of the season with the New York Mets. Game one didn't go how fans would have hoped and the team fell just short of a comeback win. Tuesday night, they won by the skin of their teeth thanks to the offense scoring early in the game. Atlanta's reliable bullpen has been a bit shaky against the Mets.

Wednesday evening they hoped to take the series lead and continue their great start to the year. Atlanta's offense has picked up right where it left off in 2023 and really looks locked in. Unfortunately, the third game of the series has been postponed due to forecasted inclement weather.

The Braves announced this game will be made up on September 26 at 7:20 p.m. EST. Fans who had tickets to tonight's game will have their tickets honored for the makeup game this fall.

Braves and Mets will meet for final game of series on Thursday

Allan Winans was set to take the rotation spot originally designated to Spencer Strider after a UCL knocked Atlanta's ace out of the rotation. Fans are still awaiting an answer on Strider's status for the year. Winans was called up when Strider was placed on the 15-day IL but it was unsure if the Braves would use him for the start as there were other options available at Triple-A Gwinnett.

Winans is a former Met and started two games against them in 2023 with mixed results. His first start was excellent as he pitched seven innings allowing no runs on four hits with two walks and nine strikeouts. However, the Mets tagged him in the second outing for seven runs on nine hits and he walked one while striking out four batters.

It would have been interesting to see Winans face them again in 2024 but he will have to wait for another day. Winans could be sent down to Triple-A unless the team decides to have him start on Thursday. Right now, Max Fried is the probable starter for Thursday afternoon at 12:20 p.m. EST.

If the Braves decide to let Winans start Thursday, this would have Fried starting on Friday in the series opener against the Marlins in Miami. Fried will be looking to bounce back from two bad starts in a row and get back to his winning ways.

It's a shame the Braves couldn't face Quintana as the Braves have success against him with a .302 batting average after facing him twice in 2023. Ozzie Albies and Marcell Ozuna could have had big night's as they've had the most success against him. Ozuna is 10-20 (.455 average) with one HR and seven RBI while Albies is 6-10 (.600 average) with two HR and three RBI.

Luis Severino is expected to start for the Mets on Thursday. He has struggled a bit with staying healthy in recent years before joining the Mets rotation. 2023 saw Severino finish with a 6.65 ERA through 89.1 innings with the Yankees. His first Mets start was against the Brewers and he struggled, allowing three runs on eleven hits. However, his most recent start versus the Reds was better with one run allowed on three hits.

Atlanta will hopefully be able to put up a crooked number against Severino who was once one of MLB's best starting pitchers. The Braves will want to head to Miami with a win as fans know the Marlins play hard against Atlanta. It doesn't matter what their record is.
