Over the last few years, the Braves and Dodgers almost always deliver a thrilling game, and the 2024 opening installment was no different. Unfortunately, it was the Dodgers that came out victorious in extra innings. To make matters worse, the Braves found out one of their key relievers will be sidelined with elbow inflammation.
On the bright side, Atlanta's superstar Ronald Acuna Jr. homered last night and seems to be breaking out of his early-season slump. Tonight Acuna and the rest of the Braves lineup will have a difficult test as they battle against one of the best pitchers in baseball.
Let's check out the starting lineups and pitchers for tonight's game.
Probable starting pitchers
Bryce Elder (1-0, 1.50 ERA) has looked pretty effective in his first couple starts back with Atlanta, although it's hard to tell if the results are smoke and mirrors. His first two challenges weren't of the strongest opposing lineups, but that obviously changes against the mighty Dodgers tonight.
Tyler Glasnow (5-1, 2.72 ERA) has been one of the best pitchers in baseball during the young 2024 season. His fastball which averages 96 mph has opponents carrying just a .293 xSLG, meanwhile he throws a couple of devastating breaking balls. Although he doesn't use his curveball as much, hitters have just a .129 xwOBA and 52.5 whiff% against that pitch.
