The Braves have used back-to-back four-run ninth innings to put the last couple of games out of reach for the Astros. Both nights were sparked by Marcell Ozuna extending his hitting streak in the last inning to a now 15 consecutive games entering Wednesday's action.
Atlanta has only hit one homer in this series thus far, but they have still managed to outscore Houston 12-3 across two games. Today they go for the sweep in Houston to polish off an amazing first trip back in H-Town since clinching the 2021 World Series in Juice Box park as Blooper likes to call it.
Let's check out today's starters and lineups.
Probable starting pitchers
Max Fried (1-0, 8.74 ERA) will start for the Braves on Wednesday afternoon. Max is coming off his best outing of the year in which he pitched 6.1 IP of one-run ball against the Marlins. The command was much better for Fried last time out, as he issued just one walk in his six-plus innings of work. This will also be Fried's first start in Minute Maid Park since his heroic World Series clinching game six performance in 2021.
The Astros will look to salvage a game behind the arm of J.P. France (0-2, 8.22 ERA). The 29-year-old RHP is off to a bad start in his first three games, pitching to the tune of an 8.22 ERA. However, his 4.07 FIP suggests he has been a little unlucky.
France generally relies on his fastball and cutter to attack right-handed batters and switches things up against LHB by throwing a lot more changeups and curveballs. The fastball velocity won't touch what the Braves saw yesterday from Hunter Brown, so hopefully that means the Braves bats can barrel some baseballs this afternoon.
