The Atlanta Braves make their first return to Houston since beating the Astros in the 2021 World Series. After an exciting finish to the Marlins series, Atlanta hopes to continue that success in the series opener at Minute Maid Park.

Injuries and pitching struggles have been a thorn in the Braves' side early on but they've fought through to a 9-5 record, maintaining their first-place position in the NL East. The Astros have been struggling a bit with their pitching as well this season and it's a big reason they are 6-11 and last in the AL West currently. Things don't get easier for them as Atlanta comes to town.

Both teams will wear the number 42 to honor Jackie Robinson's legacy.

Probable starting pitchers

Darius Vines (0-0, 0.00 ERA) is making a spot start for the Braves as he fills the vacancy left by Spencer Strider who is lost for the season with a UCL injury. He has pitched decently for Triple-A Gwinnett in his two starts so far with a 3.75 ERA. Hopefully, he can get through five innings for the Braves and give them a shot to win the opening game. Vines is very dependent on getting ground ball outs when he is at his best but he's been getting a little more swing-and-miss this season.

Spencer Arrighetti (0-1, 21.00 ERA) carries an extremely high ERA into this start as he was roughed up by the Royals in a three-inning performance during his first outing of the year. Kansas City has been surprisingly good to start the season but the Braves lineup is a whole different beast. The rookie pitcher certainly has his work cut out for him in his home debut for the Astros.
