The Atlanta Braves will look to accomplish an incredible feat tonight as they seek a third consecutive shutout versus the Chicago Cubs. As you can imagine, the Atlanta pitching has been phenomenal this series, and last night it was anchored by the best start we've seen from Chris Sale in a Braves uniform.
Perhaps the best thing to come out of last night's 7-0 win was the reemergence of the long ball from Atlanta's offense. Matt Olson ended his string of tough luck by depositing a three run homer over the wall, and Michael Harris II hit his first homer in awhile to spur the Atlanta offense.
Probable starting pitchers for Braves vs. Cubs
Charlie Morton (3-0, 3.14 ERA) will have a tough act to follow between Reynaldo Lopez and Chris Sale's dominant outings. However, Charlie has been great in his own right this season. His last start saw him throw seven innings of one-run ball against the Mets. Hopefully, more of that is to come.
Javier Assad (3-0, 1.70 ERA) has been a very underrated pitcher thus far in 2024. Probably because Assad doesn't have blow you away stuff, but the results speak for themselves. Assad leans on his incredible sinker, which generates a ton of weak contact. In fact, his sinker has a positive seven run value according to Baseball Savant. His fastball run value is currently ranked in the 99th percentile, so look for the Braves to attempt to flip the script on Assad and generate some loud contact against the heater.
