Each series throughout the year, we highlight a former player who donned a Braves jersey and suited up for their current opponent.

The Braves will host the Red Sox for a brief two game set that began with last night's victory for Atlanta. Let’s take a look back on a player who called Fenway and Atlanta home at one point in their career.

As always, there are always several options we could choose but we typically like to stay on the obscure side and bring back memories you forgot you had. Vaughn Grissom and Chris Sale are the newest members to this list, but what about middle infielder Brandon Phillips?

Brandon Phillips with Braves

Most known for his time with the Reds, second baseman Brandon Phillips did have one season with the Atlanta Braves back in 2017. BP appeared in 120 games that year, hitting .291 with 11 home runs, 52 runs batted in and 10 stolen bases.

Believe it or not, this actually tied Phillips third highest batting average season of his long 17 year career. Oddly enough, Atlanta designated Philips for assignment at the end of the year and he finished the final 24 games with the Angels.

Brandon Phillips with Red Sox

Brandon Phillips only played in 9 games with the Boston Red Sox in 2018 and that marked the end of his MLB career. Obviously with such a small sample size, it is not worth mentioning his stats while in Boston.

However, it is worth noting that in this short amount of time, Phillips did blast a long home run against the Braves in Atlanta during an interleague matchup.

Brandon Phillips career

Brandon Phillips’ time with the Braves and Red Sox both was not exactly his best. Most people remember him with the Reds as they should. During his career, Phillips made three All-Star Game appearances, won 4 Gold Glove Awards and captured a Silver Slugger Award.

He is a career .275 hitter and known as one of the best defensive second baseman in his era.
