Things haven't been going swimmingly for the Atlanta Braves recently as they have now fallen three games under .500 on the season. The offense continues to sputter, and the bullpen makes you want to watch the final moments of games blindfolded. However, it's not entirely cloudy days in Braves country as one former player, Orlando Arcia, gave them a bit of good news recently.

According to Jon Heyman the recently released Arcia disregarded a potential deal with the Braves NL East rivals. Both New York teams, the Yankees and the Mets, offered Arcia a minor league deal before he ultimately signed a Major League deal with the Colorado Rockies.

Arcia's final gift to Braves is not signing with the Mets

The Mets have an eight game lead on the Braves in the division, and the vibes are much higher in Queens. It's true signing Orlando Arcia probably wouldn't have meant much in the affects of the NL East race, but it is nice to not have to witness Arcia in Mets blue and orange.

Realistically the Mets are more than fine at the shortstop position as Francisco Lindor continues to be one of the most underrated players in baseball. However, the Mets depth isn't as inspiring up the middle as other teams, thus the presumed interest in signing Arcia to a minor league deal.

While Arcia was beloved in the Braves clubhouse, his play on the field led to him ultimately being supplanted at shortstop by the light hitting Nick Allen. On the season Arcia held a .194/.219/.226 slash line in 31 at-bats before his release.

Because the Rockies are one of the worst teams in the league opportunities are available in much greater quantities compared to either New York squad he received offers from. Despite shortstop Ezequiel Tovar returning from injury recently, the Rockies have plenty of other positions Arcia could find himself filling on a nightly basis. Regardless of where and how much he plays in Colorado, fans are thankful he won't be suiting up for one the of Braves biggest rivals in 2025.
