So far, everyone is mostly playing nice in this drama between Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker and injured star Ronald Acuna Jr. from over the weekend. Acuna Jr. was clearly irritated, but he also took down the post that caused the kerfuffle and Snitker took a diplomatic approach when discussing the situation later. The odds are good that this whole issue will disappear on it's own.
However, there is a school of thought that this is another example of the rift that seemingly exists between Snitker and Acuna Jr. to some degree. You won't hear either side disrespect the other in public and there is a clear understanding these days, but Snitker has thrown Acuna Jr. under the bus with the media before and there have certainly been disagreements in the past that fans never heard about.
With two such important parties feuding, some might be concerned with whether or not they can coexist. However, one fundamental truth remains true in that they won't have to coexist for long and Snitker's time with the Braves will likely end long before Acuna Jr.'s does.
Brian Snitker's potential retirement should shield Braves from any long-term Ronald Acuna Jr. grudge
Again, the most likely outcome here is that both sides make up very soon and we are greeted to a "we talked and we are on the same page" media blast. No one, especially the Braves, wants this narrative to linger and this Braves team is better when both Snit and Acuna Jr. are working together towards the common goal of winning as much as possible.
Even if that isn't possible, it may not matter all that much in the grand scheme of things. Snitker and Ronnie have made their relationship work for years now and with Snitker retiring before too long, this isn't a situation where the organization has to pick between the two guys even in the worst case scenario. Snit "might" manage one more year after 2025 where Acuna Jr. is under team control through 2026, but also has two very cheap $17 million club options for 2027 and 2028 in his contract as well.
One shouldn't expect Acuna Jr. or Snitker to go scorched earth over this disagreement. They are both pros and know that they need each other as long as they are with the Braves. If things are a bit more uncomfortable going forward, it could make Snitker retiring after the season a tad more likely. However, the end of Snit's timing is coming soon one way or another and that makes it a lot less likely that any feud with one of the best young players in baseball will extend to the team itself.
