The Atlanta Braves are the hottest team in baseball right now...well, other than the Red Sox who are apparently incapable of losing ever again. With a lineup that is finally healthy and that was recently bolstered by the trade for Lane Thomas, Atlanta has been able to rebuild their lead the NL East to a nice little gap. However, traveling to New York to take on the Yankees is never easy and this series will be one of the bigger tests the Braves have all season long. Unfortunately, neither team can conquer Mother Nature when she shows up.
Friday is supposed to be Braves fans' first look at new rotation member Tyler Mahle, as he is set take on old friend Max Fried. Atlanta stacked their lineup with righties for the season opener, but there was always a real risk that storms (which are scattered all over the Northeast right now) would interrupt the proceedings. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened and we are now in a rain delay.

Braves vs. Yankees, 8/7/26: When will the game finally start?
This is tough, because this is the time of year when storms pop up and disappear in wild and unpredictable ways. This could be a short delay, or things could get so bad that they have to call the game altogether. However, the current forecast has the chance of rain start really going down around 8 PM. We will hedge our bets and say that a 1.5 hour delay feels like the most likely outcome here.
We promise to keep this post updated with the most up-to-date information on the delay, including any announced start times. You may want to get comfortable, because they don't announce rain delays early if they think it will be a short wait. However, it does appear, for the moment, that baseball will be happening this evening at some point.
