The Atlanta Braves are in desperate need of a series win after what has been a disastrous start to the 2025 season. After demolishing the Marlins in the first game of their current series, the Braves were unable to do much of anything on Saturday night leaving a tough task ahead of them against Miami ace Sandy Alcantara on Sunday.
Unfortunately, Grant Holmes and the Braves have another issue to contend with in the rubber game of the series. With a large line of storms coming through the area on Sunday, the teams and MLB decided that there was no way to get the game in and decided to postpone it.
Today’s game against the Miami Marlins has been postponed due to inclement weather. This game has been rescheduled for Saturday, August 9th at 1:15 PM ET as part of a split doubleheader. Gates will open at 11:30 AM ET for the 1:15 PM ET game.

Braves vs. Marlins Rain Delay: Updates and details of Sunday's rain delay
A quick look at the weather radar certainly didn't inspire the most confidence that this game was ever going the full nine innings as this is a pretty serious storm system rolling through the southeast at the moment. The one thing that the Braves did have going for them is that the system does seem to traveling northeast which could have, in theory, created a window to get the game in. However, that never really materialized and banging the game now allowed the Marlins to hopefully get out of town before the weather may have impacted their flights.
Since the two NL East squads couldn't figure out how to get this game in, the two teams had to choose between their matchup on June 20-22 and that is in Miami or next Braves home series where they match up in early August. They opted for the latter, but that is a four game set that comes immediately before a road trip that starts with a matchup against the Mets. Playing five games in four days before dealing with Juan Soto and co. in New York is obviously not great.
The one good bit of news here is that the Braves won't have to risk taking another loss against a really tough pitcher in Alcantara. With the surprise off day, the Braves have two days to rest before having to deal with the division rival Phillies coming to town.
