On the eve of the 2026 MLB Draft, the Atlanta Braves began their first-half closing series against the Cardinals and things were looking good with Chris Sale on the mound. Unfortunately, the weather in the St. Louis area had other plans and could very easily completely ruin Atlanta's pitching plans this weekend.
This is an important series for both clubs. The Braves finally got back on track with a series win over the surprisingly potent Pirates, while the Cardinals are looking to show that they are for real and establish themselves as buyers at the trade deadline. With the score tied 0-0 in the top of the fourth inning, the skies opened up in St. Louis and now we are officially in a rain delay.
**UPDATE: 9:53 PM EST**
We are getting close to a one hour delay and there has been no indication that this game will restart soon. In fact, there is a chance that these two squads are going to have to resume this game tomorrow and it looks like the normal Braves broadcast team is preparing just in case.
If rained out tonight I'd say very likely we resume it tomorrow on BV and then also have the full game 2. https://t.co/ygBCHax5SE

Braves vs. Cardinals Rain Delay, 7/10/26: When will the game restart?
So, there is a decent chance of rain over the next two hours in the area. That doesn't mean that this delay will last that long, but it is probably safe to guess that this isn't going to be a 15-20 minute thing. That is a problem, because anything more than a very short delay likely means that Sale's night will be over after three innings of work. Once play resumed, brace yourselves for a bullpen game the rest of the way.
We will keep this post updated as more information, including any announced restart times, becomes available. In short, you may want to get comfortable. While it looks like this game will get finished tonight, it might not be a short wait. The only question at this point is whether or not the delay means that both starters are burned and we are in store for a "fun" bullpen showdown.
