It's no secret that the Atlanta Braves have some glaring concerns to address at the trade deadline. There is a need to add another bat, along with some bullpen help. However, the most glaring need lies with the starting rotation. Atlanta has done their best to piece together a core of starters to get through the first half. Unfortunately, the cracks in the foundation are getting hard to ignore.
A lot of contending teams will be in the mix this deadline for top arms like Tarik Skubal and Sonny Gray. The Braves may need to turn to a less popular choice to fill their need for starting pitching.
Orioles pitcher and former Cy Young contender Trevor Rogers seems like a prototypical target for Atlanta. Rogers was outstanding for the O's in 2025 with a 1.81 ERA,29 walks, and 103 strikeouts over 109.2 innings. Unfortunately, 2026 hasn't been nearly as kind to him. The lefty has a 4.48 ERA, 31 walks, and 69 strikeouts over 90.1 innings so far.
Trevor Rogers would be an interesting buy "low" candidate for the Braves at the trade deadline
Rogers excelled in almost every analytic last season outside of hard-hit percentage. This season, he's struggled to be above average in most categories. Rogers has excelled with chase, whiff, and extension. It would be tough to make the case for trading for a pitcher with these struggles. However, Rogers has plenty of experience and would give the Braves more experience in the rotation. They need that more than anything.
Atlanta wouldn't be as down on trading for someone like Rogers, as they have a history of acquiring struggling pitchers and immediately fixing them. Think of how well Pierce Johnson and Tyler Kinley pitched once they were traded to the Braves. It isn't outside the realm of possibility that they could do that for Rogers.
This all depends on the Orioles deciding to sell. Baltimore likely won't win the division, but they have a good chance at playing for a Wild Card spot. That may prevent them from moving on from Rogers, unless they believe moving him will help bring a boost in return.
