The Atlanta Braves franchise has housed some incredible talent over the decades. Some of them become household names, while others are important team players who don't get a lot of the spotlight.
Jesse Chavez doesn't have Hall of Fame numbers, but he will be remembered well by Braves fans. Chavez somewhat surprised everyone Thursday as he announced his retirement from Major League Baseball on the Foul Territory podcast.
He has his sights set on coaching and felt, after his most recent DFA by Atlanta, that it was time to hang up the cleats. It felt like every time Chavez left, he was destined to return. That wasn't going to last forever.
Chavez was known as a journeyman and suited up for many teams during his 18-year professional career. He was beloved by all of his teammates during his stops with the A's, Angels, Blue Jays, Braves, Cubs, Dodgers, Pirates, Rangers, and Royals.
However, there was something special about Chavez when he put on that Braves uniform. He transformed into a different pitcher. He was a huge part of Atlanta's World Series championship in 2021.
He left Atlanta after 2021 and started the 2022 season with the Cubs, but ultimately, returned to the Braves. He pitched for Atlanta in some capacity from the 2023-2025 season. Unfortunately, he lost his magic this season, which led to his retirement.
Former and current Braves made sure to send Jesse Chavez off into retirement with the love he deserves
This didn't stop current or past teammates from sending their congratulations to Chavez on a successful career. It shows just how great of a person and teammate he is. Max Fried shared MLB's post on Instagram, thanking Chavez for his time in the game.
Former Braves catcher and battery mate Travis d'Arnaud made sure to share this post as well, sending his love to Chavez. d'Arnaud and Chavez were a great duo over the years.
Current Braves third baseman Austin Riley also shared his thoughts on his Instagram story with the caption "One of the best! Congrats Coach!" I'm sure Chavez had an impact on Riley during the early years of his career.
Braves fans will certainly miss Chavez and all of the moments he provided to fans over the last few years. He will be missed, and we wish him all the best!
