Now that the calendar has turned over to November, things are about to heat up with the Atlanta Braves. They already made two of the most obvious options decisions ever with Ronald Acuña Jr. and Ozzie Albies, and the last few days have been a waiting game to see if the Braves could defy the odds and re-sign a few guys before they hit the open market. Starting Monday, the offseason officially gets going.
With all the talk about what is to come in the month leading up to a likely lockout, it is easy to miss the small bits of news around the Braves. Here is a look at some Braves news that may have fallen through the cracks if you weren't paying attention over the weekend.
Free agency begins at 5 PM EST, with the Braves set to let Mauricio Dubon, Raisel Iglesias, and Tyler Mahle, among others, hit the open market
It has been a waiting game for a while for Braves fans. Since their exit in the NLDS against the Dodgers, Atlanta had little to do while baseball was still going on. All of that is set to change Monday evening.
In baseball, free agency officially opens up five days after the World Series concludes. That means that at 5 PM EST on Monday, teams are free to officially start negotiating and signing eligible free agents. With the impending lockout set to start at the beginning of December, the exact pacing of free agency could be a bit weird, but you can bet that we will start seeing signings and trades very, very soon.
Matt Olson and Mauricio Dubon take home Gold Gloves
The arrival of November also brings the arrival of awards season. The first set of awards, as is customary, were MLB's Gold Gloves, where the Braves had four finalists: Matt Olson, Mauricio Dubon, Chris Sale, and Michael Harris II.
Well, the winners were announced over the weekend, and Atlanta has a pair of new Gold Gloves, as both Olson and Dubon emerged victorious as expected. Dubon has been the gold standard defensively in the utility category for a few years now, and Olson was widely considered to be the favorite at first base this year. Normally, Money Mike would have a great case for a Gold Glove in center field, but he unfortunately ran into the juggernaut that is Pete Crow-Armstrong, who put together one of the better defensive seasons in baseball history in 2026 in center field for the Cubs.
Isaiah Drake is finishing his stint in the AFL strong
While there have been several Braves prospects who have garnered significant attention down in the Arizona Fall League, Isaiah Drake hasn't really been one of them. Other than some eye-popping sprint speed numbers, Drake hadn't really had a breakout performance worth mentioning. That all changed this past week.
On MLB's AFL standout performers list for last week, Drake featured very prominently after going 7-for-10 with two walks and a homer. Drake's bomb was not a cheapy, as it came off the bat at 102.4 MPH and went 403 feet, but it is his speed that fueled much of his strong week, and remains his loudest carrying tool heading into a critical 2027 season for the young outfielder.
