The Atlanta Braves are finally rolling this season as they have won eight of their last 10 games and are just one win away from getting back to .500 for the season. Given how the season started, that is a welcome sight and a series against the historically terrible Rockies appears to be exactly what Atlanta needed to get their road woes sorted out.
Unfortunately, not all of the news from the Braves' road trip has been positive as one of their budding young pitchers had quite the injury scare on Tuesday evening.
Braves News: For now, it appears that AJ Smith-Shawver's arm is okay after line drive
AJ Smith-Shawver was absolutely cruising in his first start since returning to the big leagues. Looking at his pitch count and how Colorado couldn't do anything against him, Smith-Shawver might have gone seven or eight innings at least. Unfortunately, an errant line drive struck Smith-Shawver's arm and ended his night early.
For a fan base that is still experiencing PTSD from all of the team's injury issues over the last 12 months or so, this was a nightmare scenario. Fortunately, it looks like AJSS is going to be okay as he revealed that the line drive hit the "meaty" part of his arm and he expects to make his next start.
Braves News: Atlanta releases Jake Marisnick in wake of Eddie Rosario's return
In search of outfield depth with Ronald Acuna Jr. out, the Braves added Jake Marisnick before the start of camp. Marisnick's best days are behind him, but he can still hit a bit and defends pretty well, so it was a fine gamble to take.
Unfortunately, with the Braves bringing Eddie Rosario back and sending Jarred Kelenic to the minors, there just wasn't much playing time to go around and Marisnick got released as the odd man out.
Braves News: Jesse Chavez elects free agency...at least for now
Another week, another roster move involving Braves legend Jesse Chavez. The jokes are endless when it comes to Chavez and the Braves not being able to quit each other. Just a few days ago, the Braves designated Chavez for assignment again in order to make room for Davis Daniel in their bullpen.
At first glance, Chavez electing free agency instead of accepting an assignment in the minors looks like he could actually leave this time. However, we have seen this song and dance before and the odds seem to be quite good that Chavez will sign a new minor league deal (probably with the Braves) in the next couple of days.
