The Atlanta Braves have mentioned their want for an impact corner outfielder this offseason. However, one of those potential free agent targets was taken off the board as power-hitting outfielder Tyler O'Neill agreed to terms on a three-year, $49.5 million deal with the Orioles.

Atlanta was never mentioned as having discussions with O'Neill, but they were linked as a good fit for the former Red Sox and Cardinal slugger. There's good reason he would have fit with the Braves as he'd have been an excellent corner outfielder they could have paired to platoon with Jarred Kelenic.

Outfield market continues to thin for Braves as Tyler O'Neill signs with the Orioles

O'Neill crushed lefty pitchers last season with a .313/.430/.750 line in 156 plate appearances. His career OPS+ of 133 against Southpaws is 43 points higher than when he faces right-handed pitching (90 OPS+).

The Burnaby, Canada native had an excellent season for Boston in 2024. He slashed .241/.336/.511 with 31 HR, 53 BB, 61 RBI, 159 K, 132 OPS+, and 2.6 WAR. This came after a few subpar seasons with the Cards and was good enough for his agent Scott Boras to ensure he received a three-year contract with Baltimore, including an opt-out after 2025.

He would have been a great addition to Atlanta's lineup but it seems Alex Anthopoulos would prefer the Braves acquire a left-handed bat. It's interesting that they'd prefer a lefty considering they already have Jarred Kelenic so that may indicate how they feel about his future with the club.

This also means the Orioles may have found their replacement for switch-hitting outfielder Anthony Santander who became a free agent. Santander is a potential option for the Braves but he will cost a pretty penny and despite incredible power at the plate, his defense is average at best.

Atlanta could turn to the Cubs who have been shopping at least two of their outfielders including Cody Bellinger and Seiya Suzuki. There are plenty of other options available for the team to consider ahead of next season.

One thing's for sure, the Braves won't be signing Juan Soto as he's rumored to possibly get a $750 million contract this offseason. We will see if Atlanta can put anything exciting together as the Winter Meetings begin.
