The Atlanta Braves roster caravan continues to move along, with the team making a couple of moves on Monday morning. However, it is a bit of an unusual one and has everyone curious as to what could be coming afterwards.
The Braves announced they optioned reliever Anthony Molina back to Triple-A Gwinnett after Sunday's game. What normally follows this is a corresponding move to replace the roster spot. However, that was not the case on Monday.
The #Braves optioned RHP Anthony Molina to Triple-A Gwinnett following yesterday’s game, and outrighted RHP Carlos Carrasco to the Stripers.

Recent roster move should Braves fans curious as to which arm will get an opportunity next
Instead of announcing a corresponding roster move, the second move announced by Atlanta was an outright assignment of Carlos Carrasco to Triple-A Gwinnett. Carrasco continues to be a revolving option for the Braves this season. He's giving Jesse Chavez a run for his money at this point.
This is interesting because there's now very clearly a roster spot available. Who could be taking this spot? Are they calling up someone else? Or are they working on a trade to help fill a spot in the bullpen?
It doesn't feel like a trade would happen this soon into the season, but it's always possible. There are plenty of potential trade options out there. Atlanta does need to consider adding another lefty reliever to the bullpen. The more likely scenario is that the Braves call someone up from the minor leagues to fill that spot.
James Karinchak has been waiting for his opportunity to pitch again at the MLB level. Now is as good a time as any to give him that chance. The Braves have been hesitant to call him up for whatever reason.
Surely, it will be one of the two options. It's probably nothing, and they are just weighing their options before committing to a decision. But it is just unusual for them to do things this way for a simple reliever swap.
Naturally, there is going to lead to speculation from the fan base and media pundits. The Braves do have an off day on Monday as they prepare for the Blue Jays to land at Truist Park for a three-game series. Perhaps the team just doesn't want to reveal their hand too soon.
