Brian Snitker has spent more years with the Atlanta Braves organization than most people can wrap their mind around. Tons of success has followed since Snit became the full-time manager nearly a decade ago. However, all good things must eventually come to an end. Because Snit is managing the 2025 season on the last year of his contract many have speculated he could retire following the end of the season.
During a Reddit AMA with Atlanta Braves beat writer Mark Bowman, the Braves' insider answered the question as to who could be in line to fill Snitker's shoes once the Braves manager decides to hang it up. While the answers weren't all that shocking, it will make fans think about which direction is best for the Braves to go in the post-Snitker era.
Plenty of experienced managers should be available once Braves seek next manager
There's no short list of options as to who could manage this talented young Braves team for years to come. For an organization that prides itself of stabilty, hiring outside the building may not be in the cards. However, Mark Bowman listed off quite a few intriguing names that could lead Atlanta once Snit retires from his lifelong service to the Braves' organization.
Bowman began by saying as the season has gone on, the belief that Snitker will retire at the end of the season has only grown stronger. He then pointed to bench coach Walt Weiss as the probable top internal candidate. The names that followed were former managers who aren't currently within the organization such as David Ross and Skip Schumaker.
Both guys had success in the not to distant past; Ross with the Cubs and Schumaker with the Marlins. However, both were unceremoniously tossed aside when their respective front office wanted to lead the team in different directions.
Now these are two candidates that Bowman said SHOULD be on the Braves radar, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are. Plenty of other strong candidate can be found on other coaching staffs, as well as some guys we hope Atlanta avoids.
Regardless of what you think about Brian Snitker, he and Alex Anthopoulos have curated a winning clubhouse for a very long time. Replacing a voice that commands so much respect is no small task, but hopefully it is one the Braves knock out of the park.
