We are now two weeks into December and oddly enough the Atlanta Braves baseball club has done nothing but subtract from the roster this offseason. The result is a ton of folks across Braves country desperately awaiting a transaction of any kind.
The buzz around town is getting louder about Alex Anthopoulos not spending money this winter. Especially after each free agent that comes off the board lands a huge deal worth more than the original offseason projection.
Despite all that one Hall of Famer is urging Braves fans to remain patient with Alex Anthopoulos. Chipper Jones was asked to tell Anthopoulos to make a signing. Chipper responded with a convincing message about Anthopoulos' desire to win.
Chipper tells fans Anthopoulos will put the team in position to succeed
The Braves Hall of Famer said he talks to Anthopoulos often, and touched on his drive to win and how AA will do everything he can to build a contender. That's certainly a refreshing reminder for the fans that needed to hear it.
Chipper is absolutely right, and all you have to do is look at Anthopoulos' track record to see that. Yes, a ton of good baseball players have signed for a lot of money this past week. But that doesn't mean Anthopoulos is against spending money.
All it means is that Anthopoulos isn't going to spend his money irresponsibly. It's the reason this offseason isn't a failure despite the club losing talent. We still have two months and Anthopoulos has acknowledged wanting to upgrade the outfield, rotation, and bullpen.
A signing/trade will come soon, and knowing Alex it will probably be one that isn't on any of our radars. Truthfully, it is frustrating and easy to get antsy with Anthopoulos. Perhaps all we needed was this friendly reminder from one of the best players to ever wear a Braves uniform...stay patient Braves fans a move is coming.
