The Atlanta Braves have featured a revolving door of pitchers this season. With injuries to the starting rotation and underperformance from their replacements, Atlanta has had to rotate bullpen arms to keep fresh options available. For many fans, Atlanta's refusal to call up Hayden Harris or any substantive help for their bullpen has been a source of deep frustration.

That has continued to be the case, but now rumors are swirling that the Braves may be calling up one of their top prospects. Fans have long awaited to see flamethrower Rolddy Muñoz pitch at the big league level.

According to Gaurav Vedak of Baseball Prospectus, there were whispers on Sunday that Muñoz was going to get the call to the big leagues and that proved to be prophetic. On Monday, it was confirmed on Monday as he was called up before Atlanta's game against the Cubs. Luke Williams was also activated from the 10-day IL.

Braves call up Rolddy Muñoz to bolster bullpen, leave Hayden Harris in the minors for now

The Braves signed Muñoz during the 2017-2018 international signing period for $20,000. He's been in Atlanta's minor league system since 2019 and has steadily improved. In 2023, he pitched well enough to be added to the 40-man roster. He also pitched in spring training for Atlanta this year.

It has been a waiting game for fans ever since. He is a prototypical bullpen arm with a two-pitch mix. His two primary pitches are the four-seam and two-seam fastball. His velocity tops out at 100 mph, but he averages 97-98 mph most of the time.

Muñoz pairs this with a slider that ranges from 88-91 mph and generates a good bit of swing and miss. He's split time between Double-A and Triple-A this year with a 2.75 ERA over 55.2 innings. His strikeout rate and left on base percentage have been impressive at 8.25 and 82.6%, respectively.

The only concern is his walk rate which sit s a 5.01% this season. Atlanta will be betting on his ability to be coachable and work on that while continuing to strikeout a lot of batters and leave runners on base.
