The Atlanta Braves' trade deadline decisions have provided a lot of mixed feelings for fans, and rightfully so. Alex Anthopoulos made several moves that covered the team's needs. However, they were moves that barely moved the needle. Atlanta's rotation wouldn't stack up very well against others in the postseason right now. Fans are valid in feeling like there wasn't enough care taken to ensure their team has the best chance to win when it matters most.
However, the team's division lead is in a pretty good spot, and Atlanta is in a good position to take home the crown. Their rivals from Philly attempted to improve things at the deadline. However, their actiual execution in their attempt to chase down the Braves was pretty bizarre once you look at the details.
Instead of getting an outfielder at the deadline to try and help the offense, they acquired second baseman Luis Arraez from the Giants. This meant the team had to find a new spot for Bryson Stott to get playing time.

The Phillies having to completely shuffle their roster around defensively is music to the Braves' ears
Trading for Arraez prompted the Phillies to move Stott to third base and Alec Bohm to first base. The problem? Bryce Harper is the first baseman right now, but because of this decision, he will now play right field for the first time since 2021. Harper is a talented player, but expecting him to re-acclimate to the outfield in the middle of the season seems like an unnecessary risk. But Braves fans are always hoping for their hated rivals to make laughable decisions.
Arraez and Stott have great range on the infield, with the former being much better. However, Stott may have range, but his arm strength isn't very impressive. That's not something you want from your third baseman. Bohm has some of the worst range in baseball, so that seems like a massive risk to move one of the worst fielders on the team to first. However, Harper also has featured pretty lousy range this season as well.
Is there a chance this move helps them? Sure. However, it's pretty hilarious to see the desperate attempt they had to make to even have a chance to catch the Braves. Atlanta has the better offense and defense. The Braves even have the better pitching staff statistically, with a 3.66 ERA compared to Philly's 4.17 ERA. So, while Arraez improves them slightly, it probably wasn't enough to make a difference.
