Braves fans need to hope Jon Morosi is wrong if Blue Jays land Kyle Tucker

While the start of the offseason brought about endless conversations with experts and fans alike about the Atlanta Braves' shortstop situation, that chatter has quieted over the last few weeks. A big part of that is likely due to the fact that the offseason shortstop market is terrible and the Braves did trade for Mauricio Dubon after all, but Atlanta kept the door open to add an everyday shortstop and there has been essentially nothing about it since then.

The Braves have been connected to basically any possibly available infielder that could feasibly play shortstop this offseason. Obviously there was a lot of talk about a reunion with Ha-Seong Kim, but there has been next to no movement on that front at all. Of course, the biggest name that has been connected off and on to Atlanta, at least in terms of fit, has been Bo Bichette.

By most accounts from reasonable people, Bichette hasn't been a viable Braves target for a while now. Bichette can certainly hit, but his defensive home is looking more and more like it shouldn't be shortstop and that is a bit of a problem. However, according to MLB insider Jon Morosi, he thinks Atlanta is a likely landing spot for Bichette if the Blue Jays end up signing Kyle Tucker.

Now, the Tucker-to-Toronto stuff is not just a hypothetical. There has been connections all offseason that showed the Blue Jays as a fit given their need for a real lefty bat. It also doesn't hurt that Toronto is very motivated after making it to the World Series and has shown that by throwing their money around this offseason to keep the good times rolling.

While Tucker going to the Blue Jays makes sense, where things get dicey is projecting Bichette to Atlanta. Between his defensive shortcomings and the fact that he is going to be extremely expensive, signing Bichette to a long-term deal just doesn't feel like a move Alex Anthopoulos would make especially in the wake of trading for Dubon and committing $15 million a year to Robert Suarez.

That said, it does feel like the Braves are not done yet and there is a chance, at least, that they make a real splash and add Bichette. However, it feels more likely at the moment that a free agent starter or a potential trade is going to be where Atlanta strikes next instead of overpaying for Bichette.
