Atlanta Braves first baseman Matt Olson does a lot of things well on a baseball field. He can hit the ball a mile, is generally a good hitter overall, and plays good defense at first base most of the time. The one thing he definitely can't do well is run which is why those not watching their game against the Reds will be surprised to see that he hit an inside-the-park home run. Unfortunately, the reason that transpired was absolutely brutal.

In the bottom of the third inning, Olson drove a pitch from Brady Singer the other way down the left field line. Reds rookie left fielder Tyler Callihan ran the ball down and seemingly caught it, but then crashed into the wall. The ball came out, Olson circled the bases, and you really don't want to watch the video of what happened to Callihan if you have a weak stomach.

**UPDATE**

The Braves announced during the game that Callihan suffered a broken forearm on the play in question. Absolutely heartbreaking.

Unfortunate and brutal injury to Reds outfielder results in unlikely inside-the-park home run for the Braves

It never feels good to profit from another player's misfortunate like this. Callihan came incredibly close to making a great play and instead got seriously hurt. If we are being honest with ourselves, it feels as though the umpire got their review of the play wrong and it should have been an out. It is possible they just didn't want to look at the video anymore of Callihan's arm/wrist being bent it ways it wasn't meant to and honestly, we'd respect that.

Hopefully Callihan is on the mend soon because that was pretty gruesome to watch. Yes, Atlanta got something out of it, but a run or two is not worth having a guy's season or even career threatened.

So far, there is no word as to what Callihan's injury is exactly, but that is certain to come out in the coming hours and days. Send your best wishes to him and his family and friends.
