Spring is quickly approaching and some big-time free agents remained unsigned. The Atlanta Braves have been one of the many teams sitting patiently waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. Alex Anthopoulos has yet to make an impact addition for the Major League roster, and one of the Braves' top targets could be making his decision soon according to MLB inside Jon Morosi.
Tanner Scott is THE premier bullpen arm on the market, and as expected he has an abundance of potential suitors. The Braves have shown reported interest, as well as the Chicago Cubs and of course public enemy number one the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Tanner Scott could make his decision as early as this weekend
It's been reported that Scott has multiple contract offers on the table already, and he is expected to make his decision very soon. The early contract projections had Scott landing a deal north of $60 million for three or four years depending on the publication. His late-inning wipeout stuff certainly makes Scott worth the price should he remain healthy.
Scott feels like the perfect big-name free agent for the Braves to finally make a splash this winter. Atlanta came close to landing another arm earlier this winter until the medicals fell through.
Scott's overpowering fastball could be a huge weapon to neutralize the elite left-handed bats that await the Braves in the NL East. We saw how the Padres deployed him against Shohei Ohtani in the NLCS last season.
However, we know Scott will receive huge offers from teams like the Cubs who are also hoping to make their significant signing this winter. Also, you can never rule out the mighty Dodgers who could look to lock up an all-time roster with one last elite signing. Scott's decision seems to be imminent, and it's one that will have perhaps the largest impact amongst remaining free agents.
The Braves aren't usually one of the teams to get into a bidding war against the big market teams. However, for the right player the Braves have shown willingness to throw their hat in the ring. Also, we all know Anthopoulos' desire to build an air-tight bullpen. Let's hope the baseball world is celebrating a big-time free agent landing in Atlanta rather than yet another superstar dawning Dodger blue.
