Now that the Atlanta Braves have a decent little sample of spring training games under their belt, more and more roster cuts are inevitable. Most of those cuts are going to come on the pitching side as the Braves don't have nearly as many position player NRIs in camp and still need who they have to manage the lineup regulars' playing time this early in spring training.

So far, we have gotten a good bit of clarity as to how Atlanta's pitching battles are going with the rotation competition getting trimmed early when Hurston Waldrep got sent to MiLB camp. The bullpen race has also gotten interesting with multiple arms already getting sent to the backfields including Chasen Shreve and Jordan Weems who were cut on Saturday.

Braves make next round of spring training cuts with Chasen Shreve and Jordan Weems

Cracking the Braves' bullpen to start the 2025 season is going to be tough as most believe that guys like Angel Perdomo, Daysbel Hernandez, and Anderson Pilar had the inside track from the beginning. Unfortunately, Shreve and Weems were unable to get enough momentum to stick around.

Shreve started his big league career with the Braves back in 2014 before bouncing around with seven different organizations since then. Atlanta brought Shreve back on a minor league deal about a month ago and now he is either going to have to find an opportunity with another team or bide his time in Gwinnett waiting for the Braves to need lefty support.

As for Weems, he was a pretty lowkey minor league signing back in December. The 32 year-old reliever had previously pitched out of the Nationals bullpen with middling success, but a pretty live fastball/slider combo. He was probably one of the bigger longshots of the relief options the Braves brought into camp and came up a bit short this time.
