Atlanta Braves fans know which key bullpen arms have left the organization this winter. Names like A.J. Minter, Jesse Chavez, and Joe Jimenez (due to injury) won't be part of Atlanta's bullpen in 2025. Most of the returning faces will pitch in the same roles they held last season, but what fans don't know yet is which of these spring training invites will make the Opening Day roster.
Given the current state of the bullpen it's very likely one NRI will be on the 26-man roster come March 27th. Recently, we learned of another name who will get that chance to win a roster spot this spring. It's been reported by MLB Trade Rumors that the Atlanta Braves have agreed to a minor league deal with former Pirates and White Sox pitcher Chad Kuhl.

Kuhl pitched to a 5.06 ERA in 53 1/3 innings out of the White Sox bullpen last season.
Braves bring in Chad Kuhl to join Olympic-sized pool of potential bullpen arms
32 year-old Chad Kuhl was part of the historically bad Chicago White Sox team last year, and he finished the season with a 5.06 ERA and 4.10 FIP. From 2016-2018 Kuhl was a semi-effective starter with the Pittsburgh Pirates, but his low strikeout rates really caught up to him after that.
From Kuhl has mostly worked as a swingman and innings eater of bullpens, and he'll hope to carve out a similar role with Atlanta. Kuhl's profile isn't exactly inspiring, but there are clearly some things the Braves like. An educated guess would probably point to the strong groundball rate (70th percentile) and ability to avoid barrels (82nd percentile in barrel%) via Baseball Savant. What also may work in Kuhl's favor is his ability to throw multiple innings, thus allowing the Braves to be aggressive in committing to Grant Holmes in the rotation.
Kuhl will join the plethora of names the Braves will take a look at this spring hoping to find that diamond in the rough they so often do. Stay tuned in here at HTHB as there's sure to be more of these type of moves as the Braves near spring training action.
