The Atlanta Braves announced the promotion of another bullpen righty, but it's not the one fans may have been expecting. This morning the club called up 27 year-old right-handed pitcher Davis Daniel and designated the beloved Jesse Chavez for assignment.

Davis last appeared in the big leagues with the Los Angeles Angels when he started six games and had a 6.23 ERA. Davis should be able to provide the Braves bullpen with length if needed. He's started three games for Triple-A Gwinnett this season, and holds a 4.63 ERA.

Chavez pitched in Friday's game against Arizona and allowed one run in an inning of work. This is the second time this season he has made one appearance before swiftly being DFA'd by the team. If we know Alex Anthopoulos and Jesse Chavez like we think we do, it's likely Chavez will find his way back to Gwinnett as Atlanta hopes to preserve their organizational depth.

Braves bring up needed bullpen help for remainder of West Coast trip

If there's two ballparks you want to have additional pitching reinforcements Chase Field and Coors Field would certainly rank near the top. Braves starters haven't been terrible during this winning streak, but there also hasn't been a ton of guys working into the sixth inning of games either. Pitchers like Dylan Lee, Raisel Iglesias, and Aaron Bummer are getting a ton of work early on in the season. If the Braves want to be at their best in September they need to find a way to get these key relievers more rest.

Shuttling bullpen arms like Davis, Chavez, and others is a start at solving this early problem. Hopefully one of the Braves starters can go deep, allowing the bullpen to catch it's breath. The Braves go for the sweep against the Diamondbacks this afternoon with Spencer Schwellenbach so hopefully a bounce back start from him is in order.
