The relief market has been volatile this offseason, and the Atlanta Braves knew may need to pay a pretty penny to upgrade their bullpen. Pitching was always going to be a focus for Atlanta during the offseason, despite the main conversation surrounding their need for a shortstop. Atlanta was tied to a few pitchers during the Winter Meetings. One of those rumors came to fruition when it was announced that the Braves inked reliever Robert Suarez to a three-year, $45 million contract.
Plenty of rumors swirled during the recent MLB Winter Meetings, including the Braves being potential suitors in a trade for Corey Seager. However, with Atlanta being on his no-trade list, that seems less than likely.
ESPN's Buster Olney also stated he's doubtful of this because he's heard Atlanta's focus is "pitching, pitching, and pitching." While Seager's bat would be nice, Atlanta knows they need to build up their pitching depth. Especially after what transpired last season.

He’s the ideal trade target for a flush-with-cash Braves team whose shortstop position has been a black hole.

Braves' addition of Robert Suarez makes them competitive, but there is more to be done
Suarez is expected to take on a set-up role for Atlanta. This gives a great 1-2 punch in the back of the bullpen. While this is an excellent step in the right direction and shows that the team is willing to invest, there is still more to be done.
The bullpen still needs at least one more impact arm. Atlanta could also benefit from adding a starter to the mix. There is also a need at shortstop, as mentioned above. Shortstop is the most glaring need for the offense, but that will depend on cost.
There are rumors that Atlanta is interested in utilityman Willi Castro. That would improve their depth, but his potential signing would mean Mauricio Dubon is likely the main shortstop. Hopefully, Atlanta can sign or trade for an impact shortstop like Ha-Seong Kim or Seager.
Things are starting to come together for 2026, and if the front office can make two or three more impact moves, Atlanta has a strong core to compete for a playoff spot.
